Potluck Night.
« on: November 22, 2011, 12:01:17 AM »
Potluck Night. A favorite tradition for families, friends, and neighbors is potluck night. Gather together for a summer barbecue, a "hot dish" banquet, or a soup and sandwiches night. Take advantage of this get-together to build your community of friends as well as for the cost-savings. You can invite just a few families, or a whole block – it's up to you. To keep costs down, have each family bring their own utensils, plates, and drinks, as well as the dish they will share.

The folks on the street behind our house had a potluck in honor of
National Night Out. We were invited, since we don't have a critical
mass of houses on our street. We had many of these folks over for the
New Year's Eve party last time. We managed to meet several new people,
including the couple who bought the house directly behind us. I brought
guacamole with some fresh jicama and carrot chips. Other contributions
included mac & cheese, several salads, and lots of chocolate (my kind of
potluck). Seattle is big on the National Night Out concept. According
to a local TV station, well over 200 events were registered around the
city. Another block party was also underway nearby.
