Travel off-season.
Sure, Arizona or Aspen in August may not be as appealing as, say, Maui in March, but the hotel rates can't be beat! Look for travel dates right on the cusp of the high season so you can still enjoy great weather without the crowds or the costs. Hint: Ski resorts like Lake Tahoe, Vail, and Sun Valley are gorgeous in the summer months, too!

I'm planning an extended stay in a campervan in mainland Europe. The plan is to head south when the weather gets cold. Does anyone have any tips or advice regarding camping in the winter months, when most of the campsites seem to be closed?
